Weatherford Equine maintains a large recipient mare herd selected to support our embryo transfer program. Recipient mares are screened for reproductive and infectious disease concerns and managed to maximize the likelihood of a good match for each embryo.

We continually evaluate and add mares to the herd to maintain adequate availability throughout the breeding season. Because some recipient mares arrive without a complete foaling or handling history, we also rely on client feedback after foaling. Mares identified as having poor maternal behavior, difficult handling characteristics, or other concerns are removed from the program.

Our goal is to provide healthy, fertile recipient mares with appropriate size, temperament, and reproductive history whenever possible.
