Weatherford Equine Medical Center is seeking an experienced individual to assist with the reproductive management of our large recipient mare herd during breeding season.
This is a focused seasonal position centered around reproductive examination and management of recipient mares and plays an important role in keeping our embryo transfer program running efficiently.
About the Position
Our recipient mares require reproductive monitoring seven days a week throughout the breeding season.
This position works closely with our veterinarians and recipient mare team to evaluate mares, track reproductive status, identify appropriate recipients for embryo transfer, and maintain accurate records.
We have successfully filled this role with veterinarians, foreign-trained veterinarians, and other experienced reproductive personnel. Exact responsibilities will depend on the candidate’s training, experience, and qualifications.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities may include:
- Reproductive examination and monitoring of recipient mares
- Rectal palpation and reproductive ultrasonography when appropriate to the candidate’s qualifications and assigned duties
- Tracking follicular development, ovulation, uterine status, and pregnancy
- Identifying mares suitable for embryo transfer
- Maintaining accurate recipient mare records
- Communicating findings with Weatherford Equine veterinarians and recipient mare staff
- Helping coordinate recipient availability and synchronization
- Assisting with other reproductive responsibilities as appropriate
Who We’re Looking For
The ideal candidate is:
- Experienced with equine reproductive palpation and ultrasound
- Comfortable efficiently examining a high volume of mares
- Dependable and able to maintain a consistent seasonal schedule
- Organized and accurate with records
- Comfortable working independently within an established system
- Able to communicate effectively with veterinarians and recipient mare staff
- Experienced and safe around horses
Veterinarians and foreign-trained veterinarians with equine reproduction experience are strongly encouraged to apply. Experienced non-veterinarian candidates may also be considered depending on qualifications and the responsibilities of the position.
Schedule
This is a seasonal position during the primary equine breeding season and requires consistent seven-day-per-week coverage of the recipient mare herd.
The daily schedule is generally focused around completing recipient mare examinations and associated records for the day.
Exact seasonal start and end dates can be discussed based on availability and the needs of the breeding season.
A Specialized Seasonal Opportunity
This position offers extensive hands-on exposure to reproductive ultrasound and recipient mare management within a high-volume embryo transfer program.
We are particularly interested in dependable individuals who may be available to return for future breeding seasons.
